Position Summary: Executive Director
The Executive Director is responsible for coordinating, managing, supporting, and collaborating with other state and local agencies/programs across Nebraska to uphold our vision that every individual and family living with IDD in Nebraska has access to the information, advocacy, and skills they need to support their full inclusion and participation in the community they choose throughout their lifetimes.
Broad Areas of Work Include: Legislative Advocacy on bills that impact the community we serve, Strategic Planning, Financial Management of The Arc of Nebraska office, Collaboration with state agencies and local providers, Supporting Parents/Guardians, and the Supervision of Support Staff.
The position reports to the Board of Directors/Executive Committee and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.
The position is based in Lincoln.
JOB DESCRIPTION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Arc of Nebraska, Inc.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
2. Develop and supervise fundraising activities to maintain the financial stability of the organization including: grants, proposals, special events, and any capital fund drive with the Board of Directors.
3.Assure that agency philosophy, vision and mission statements are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
4. Provide leadership in current programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board. Lead the organization into the next level of advocacy for people with disabilities, increasing programs and membership.
5. Serve as the chief spokesperson and lead advocate for the agency; participate actively in advocacy activities including legislative information and monitoring current developments in the field.
6. Maintain and strengthen on-going relationships in public relations and communications. Specifically, through the local media to initiate and maintain contact and network throughout all segments of the community.
7. Maintain official records and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Coordinating with the accounting firm Dana Cole & Associates and the Treasurer of The Arc of Nebraska.
8. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
In Communications, the Director will:
1. See that the Board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.
2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.
3. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
4. Represent the programs and point-of-view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
In Relations with Volunteers, the Director will:
1. Be responsible for the recruitment of volunteers.
2. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse selection of volunteers.
3. Organize all volunteer opportunities, reaching out to community members for participation.
In Budget and Finance, the Director will:
1. Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
2. Work with the Finance Committee and the Board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within the budget guidelines.
3. Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
4. Jointly, with the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors, or officer so designated, conduct official correspondence of the organization.
This is a full-time exempt position. The hours may vary according to events and/or programs that may occur from time to time (e.g. Honey Sunday, Disability Awareness events, fundraising events).
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is based on experience. A stipend toward health insurance coverage will be allotted. In addition, the Executive Director receives downtown parking and a cell phone allowance.
